The east of Roatan is quieter with more secluded diving. The dive sites in this section are located between Carib Point and the most eastern part of Roatan, the island of Morat. These dive sites are mainly reached by dive shops in Oak Ridge. From there it is also possible to book tours to Santa Helena, Rose Cay and all the way up to Barbareta Island and the famous Morat Wall. Its shoreline is connected by roads consisting out of the small fishing villages Jonesville, Oak Ridge, Calabash Bight and Port Royal. Interesting trips in this part of Roatan are its excellent mangrove boat tours and fishing trips. At the northeastern shores you can find the village Punta Gorda, which is the island's oldest settlement. It were the British who dumped almost 3000 slaves on these shores in 1797. Up till today many islanders are still living from fishing and farming.
